Ivan did Liam proud today, after a steady start the lad got settled and in a rythm, he got slightly left behind as they quickened up but Ivan then stayed on past beaten horses to finish 4th, Ivan totally enjoyed himself and nice to see him finishing well. Liam impressed on his first ride showing a jockeys brain on one or two occassions, considering he only rode a horse for the first time 2 1/2 years a go he has done well. He learnt from the ride, and next season when he gets a few more opportunities will know what to do.

SUNCLIFF AT MORDON

Suncliff ran a little better today, being pulled up 1/2 mile from home, he jumped much better and looked to be shaping up. Fast ground should be ideal, lets hope he comes out of it ok for Easingwold on Sunday.

Dear All,

I am afraid that the Grimthorpe was just too quick on Ivan after Flagg, he was well up there till the cross fence 1/2 mile from home but when they have quickened he looked very one paced. He is better than this run having only been beaten 2 lengths by Ask Bobby 2 runs ago, and today it was nearer 40. Though he has seemed in good fettle at home adn showing all the right signs he has shown us before that he needs a longer gap in between races, he had a similar running at Corbridge last year after his two runs at the Brocklesby and Duncombe park.I am not sure what his next plan will be but he will certainly have 3 if not 4 weeks till his next run, most likely to be the Pendle.Suncliffe unshipped at the 8th fence, he is in the maiden at the Bedale next week and will run as long as he is ok. For those of you who met Michael today he is a grand bloke and we should have abit of fun with him and his horse until the end of the season. He deserves a change of luck and I hope us too.I will confrim about Sundcliffe nearer the time.

Hi everyone, Just to report that Ivan was a brave second again, he just keeps meeting one too good, led till the last and got touched of by a couple of lengths. Joey was also second albeit beaten a distance and only 2 finished.
Nothing now till Whitwell, I will enter Ivan in both races and we will see what the entries and ground look like, my main priority is to find him a race that he can win as he is running his heart out and thoroughly deserves one,, it may be that we boycott whitwell in search of weaker pickings the following week.

IRON EXPRESS AND SWALEDALE AT DOWNHILLS

We all had a fun day at corbridge, not quite as cold as last year but a bit breezy! Many thanks to Sue Bradbury for lending us her horses box to get there. Ivan was back to form, running a blinder and finished third to Boy names Sioux and Interdit, his exuberant jumping was a spectacle to watch but with running with quite so much freshness he did not quite last home over 3m 5 furlong. He seems ok this morning and had not left an oat last night.Swaledale reverted back to his wayward behaviour, and when pushed wide after 1 1/2 mile was pulled up - very disappointing, opinion is divided on him, but as he has come back fine he will run again on Saturday. If we can harness his streak and get him dropped in he may make something of himself - we wont perservere forever but shall continue to run him whilst the ground decent. It is shame that Oliver has so many horses as he got the best tune out of him, and I dont think it helps the horse changing partners all the time. Swaledale on the way to the post

I had him scanned last week and he has a slight superficial tendon lesion it is not a major injury but unfortunately warrants 6n weeks on box rest followed by a month or so on the walker which rules him out for the rest of the season. It is an injury that a full recovery will be made from and if he does not return under rules,lets hope he gets better luck in 2009."

Dear All,

Picnic starts at 11am at Pennys car, like last year she will have a flag or something obvious as to which car it is.

Swaledales race is 12.30, the whole aim on Saturday is to get him to settle so all being well he will be anchored at the back, and he will be wearing a tongue tie.

Ivan is back in work, Dan banged himself when he ran so he may make Market Rasen. Ivan is being aimed at the Tynedale on Sat 2nd March, and if Swaledale ok after Saturday he may join him for the miaden.

Although Fioris owners are still involved I am adopting him for everyone to follow as if he comes out of his first race ok is heading for Aintree where I hope everyone will come and watch.

He will run at Hutton Rugby on March 22nd.

There,s being Two Open Days ,the first was held on the beach at Hunmanby nr Filey with about 15 members seeing the horses work out on the sand .

The second meeting we meet at Dalby were the horses worked on the uphill gallop and then went over a few fences .

IRON EXPRESS, Looked fit to race .

DAN HEIR , Looks like he may need a race,but still worked well.

SWALEDALE, This year his jumping as got better.

For those of you not at Witton, I will fill you in on what happened.

Dan Heir ran an encouraging first race, was a bit free to post and in the race, he jumped very well and looked as if there is a ladies win or two in him.

Swaledale ran way too keen, an pulled up after a circuit and a half which was bitterly disappointing as he has been working so well at home.

Both horses may well run at Duncombe park, if ok, or Dan may wait for Market Rasen.

Iron Express is slowly improving, and may be ready March time, he remains in great form, so his antibiotics have not taken too much out of him.

PLANS FOR 2008

We have an exciting package for 2008; after the success of Iron Express, we have added a 3rd horse to the team.

1. Iron Express - 4 time winner in 2007, including the Grimthopre Gold Cup, aswell as placed 2nd Corbridge ladies and 3rd to Waking Ned in Champions Stayers Hunter Chases at Perth.

2. Dans Heir - 5 year old, who is already the winner of 3 races, 1 hurdles (rating of 125) and 2 flat races, aswell as 4th in novice chase at Wetherby. He is an ideal prospect for point to pointing and novice hunter chasing.

3. Swaledale - showed enough in Sinnington Hunt race to suggest he has ability, was bought down on his next start and run of his feet over 2m 4f on fast ground at Morden. He will be prepared for an early season campaign, has strengthened up over the summer and is the apple of my eye!

2007 WHAT A GREAT START TO THE SEASON

It has been a great start to the season so far. Iron Express has run twice and won on both occasions. He started out at the Brocklesby on Feb 11 when he easily won a Ladies Open in the soft. Then on Feb 17 he ran in the Sinnington Members which he also won with considerable ease. Again he benefited from testing conditions.

Swaledale made his debut on 17 Feb in the Sinnington Members (won by Iron Express). He ran very encouraging sitting in behind the leaders, jumping nicely before getting tired in the closing stages.

IRON EXPRESS - 1986 bay gelding by Teenoso-Sylvia Beech

He raced consistently in 2006 only out of the frame once in six starts. He stays extra well as demonstrated when he took the Ladies Open at Flagg on Easter Tuesday in testing conditions. He is however a versatile performer and has form on the shorter tracks as he showed when a head second to Polar Gale at Howe Hills on his final start of the season.
